How To Stop The Clowns?

Postby Gordon_j on Sun Aug 23, 2009 8:53 am

I'm getting seriously sick of the all in every hand merchants.

An example - yesterday in a small MTT (8 playerS) we had 4 on a table. A player went all in with AK first hand and lost to 3 7! Now we have three on the table and a clown has doubled up. He goes all in every hand and we can't do anything about it. We called for an admin to no avail. We just had to try to ignore the idiot until the table closed.

To make matters worse, the idiot in question went on to win the tournament by twice beating high pocket pairs with rubbish.

In other recent games the same thing has happened to me several times: Clown makes a raise - I re-raise with a great hand - clown goes all in - I call - clown wins.

When AA loses to 10 7 and KK loses to 2 6 (honestly!) I begin to lose the will to live, yet alone to play another game.

What can we do to have the rules of TJ enforced and those who play roulette banned?

Going ALL IN preflop is NOT against the triplejack rules.

Going ALL IN almost EVERY hand IS!

it is stated quiet clearly in the help section under 'Introduction & Rules' ....... "Other things that may result in getting booted or banned include abuse of the warning system, going all-in on every hand thus reducing each hand to a roulette game rather than poker"

The ONLY time this rule does not get upheld by an admin - is if a player creates a room specifically for clowning. If you want a room to 'clown' in please be sure the title is clear ie. 'clown room' 'all-in fun' etc and add a welcome message explaining.

Helpers and admins make every effort warn constant all-iners, when we come across them. If a player is warned and continues, then we do resort to suspending these players for 24hrs

The majority of TJ'ers do NOT enjoy Roulette, they prefer Poker, which uses skill with a little luck

Tbh...ive noticed this happening alot at high stakes tables(5k +) and most of the time the clown will win with ridiculously poor hands even if the table is low blinds...i do agree that its getting a bit out of hand
(}-_Nyx_) omg i'm playing with myself..
5treeter] i went on a talking weighing machine before,i put 50p in and it said,"only 1 person at a time please"
+ _Nyx_] aww i just spilled juice all over my chest

unfortunately, since TJ is a family orientated site (quite how poker is family orientated i don't know) you will never get a good game here when a lot of players are kids who have no idea what they're doing. And it doesn't help when the cards seem to be rigged against crappy hands and players either.

I'm really hating playing here right now, but unfortunately you will never stop clowns

Not to say anything after what Barbiequeen, because what she said was right. You have to remember that everyone has a different playing style. Some people choose to play hands like 10 7, even though some people think its a bad hand. So it may seem like clowning to you, but in reality, its just how they play this wonderful game we call poker.

And by the sounds of Gordon's description, the guy was calling the all in preflops. Its not like he was going all in preflop with 10 7, he was calling your bets. Any bet preflop is a risk that you need to take. Jut because you have pockets or AK doesnt mean your going to win...

And if I may point out - This is a game. You are playing at table for fake poker chips. I would understand being upset by clowing if you were losing real money, but your not. This site is here for fun. To entertain you. So maybe if you join in and have a little fun, the "bad hands" wont bug you as much. Definitely if you play with a group of your friends. Everything will be just fine guys

While I do understand the sentiments of players who will not like nor understand the philosophy of people who go all in with bad hands - and amazingly, win - we can't really fault them for it. It's their play style and we can't impose our will and the way we play on other people. To each his own, that's the way of the world and that's the way it is in poker. So sure, you will hate the player who called your KK with a 34 and lose to him. But that's great poker play to him and bad to you.

Ultimately, Triplejack is a fun-oriented site so relax! Taking a couple of hits now and then isn't all that bad. We all just have to remember its just a game, don't take it all too seriously.

i do freely call myself a clown..and i do call with 24, 26, 27 and some other despicable hands..but i rarely bet all in preflop with these bad hands..i prefer it more to call all in preflop..
my reason for it has been always my curiosity in card flops and the so called bad beats..
i know it is frustrating to people when their AA gets hammered with a 26 but thats the idea of poker..every hand can be a winning hand..
i was once hammered by a good player in the BS 200K room..he was calling my two faced cards with crap..he destroyed my stack with bluffs, well placed chases and godly luck..take note 200K room..
As to what dnixiu said..Jut because you have pockets or AK doesnt mean your going to win...
my only advice in how to play with "our" kind is to play tight..
take a minute to observe..read the opponent..if the clown goes all in preflop ALL THE TIME..complain..coz that is punishable..
anyway..
this is meant to be a fun site..just sit back and watch the amazing badbeats..
try browsing the amazing screenshots forum thread..you'll be awed by the badbeats people actually get..

god i'm late for school..
i am numpty..
numpty nygee..
if you wanna be happy..
look for nygee..
he's so weirdee..
thats me..

whilst it maybe someones play style to play like a complete moron, my issue is that this site rewards clown playing, there is no ramdomness in any of the hands that take place which makes playing "Poker" here, which techinically isn't poker, as poker is random, absolutely awful.

The fact that now so many hands show pairs on the flop: Such as 2 9 9, 3 8 3, J K J etc...
There are too many full houses and flushes for it to be random, as well a general rewarding of clown play with ridiculous turn and/or river cards.

Don't get me wrong I know there are bad beats all the time in poker, but here its just beyond a joke.
If this site is about socialising and all this family atmosphere, why have the poker here in the first place? it makes a mockery of the real thing.

Clowns...clowns...clowns..they're everywhere

Stuntmen...daredevil...suicidal...riskers...hell raisers...pre-floppers...some of the terms i used to call them :D

Can't blame them anyway...they're just enjoying the game i guessed...or i may say it only represents one's personality/character of a person.
Each and everyone of us has a CLOWN of its own sometimes  but to tell a real clown is not that easy...you can only identify a real clown from clowning by looking at the player's stats...play style...betting...that sort and don't forget to check and focus on their buy-ins    that's where it matters most

"If you cant beat em...join em"...if u have the chips  clowns are pre-floppers mostly in small rooms and rarely found in BS rooms...don't let them initiate the action...intimidate them...when they raise...re-raise it to the roof    of course timing...TIMING is the KEY to beat a clown

Seriously, leaving a clown's room is the BEST way to stop them...plenty of rooms to choose from...you can beat them...but NEVER can stop them from CLOWNING

If it's a tournament you can't just leave the room.

And all in every hand is against the rules. Simple as that. All I want is the rules of the site to be enforced. Not too much to ask, is it?

This, right there, is 1 of the reasons why I prefer cash games over tournaments. So the clown runs absolutely hot, and you can't seem to earn anything off of his godly luck. Why not just leave? Best way to deal with one is by not playing with one.

I guess you have all the answers as everyone stated in here.."Barbiequeen" clearly emphasizes the rules and our role as HELPERS and ADMINS alike...to implement and enforce such rules

"In every room there's always a MONKEY  at your back"... Take it as a challenge to improve your skills...you CAN BEAT them im sure :D :D :D but we can NEVER stop them from CLOWNING

This is a pretty easily fixed if you are a power player - There is a pot limit option for a reason. It will calm down with the clown betting a lot. I know it will be a pain if you WANT to go all in preflop, but it does help a lot.

Also for regular tables you make, you can make it have a max amount of buy ins. That will make sure that the person will only be at the table for a couple of the all ins that he does.

To make matters worse, the idiot in question went on to win the tournament by twice beating high pocket pairs with rubbish.

This sounds like jealousy related to his "luck". Remember this is poker, almost every starting hand has an equal chance of winning. I will assume both the hands, AK and 37 were offsuit, thus providing an exactly equal chance of winning the hand.

This is the only issue I see from all that is posted above, the availability of an admin/helper to assist should always be key, no matter what the situation.. But there are obviously certain natural restrictions keeping us from meeting the demand.. Sleep, etc.
